The definition of mesmerize is -to hold the attention of (someone) entirely : to interest or amaze (someone) so much that nothing else is seen or noticed-.
That was me in making this image!
Almost to the point of being dizzy, the striations in the landscape in front of me were almost blinding and perfectly fit the above thought. I walked the surrounding area for a while before I could begin to see a composition for what I was seeing and feeling. My ability to actually focus was affected both physically and mentally. All I could see were lines and everything around them went fuzzy if concentration were lost for just a moment!
The first idea was to narrow the field of view where only the lines of the mounds were featured. After quite some time I decided that the sky along with the base I was standing on had the same lines and in the foreground, the same texture.
Those shapes and the lines that make up the distant canyons were my consideration in the final decision along with the tree line that gave scale all leading to the seemingly distant sky which completed the composition. I stayed for a long time and shot many frames but the composition never changed. As the light softened a sense of tranquility set in and I was struck but the beauty and calm of this strange and hostile setting.
